Sean Martin 22nd July 2024

Just this Friday afternoon I was sat in my garden with my wife and a beer, opened our trade magazine LS&i and was shocked to discover Jerry Gilbert's spot on tribute to Mick. I simply had no idea of Mick's passing and frankly it knocked me sideways and to make things worse the funeral had been that lunchtime and I'd missed it. I'm a big lump of a bloke, but just burst into tears and I couldn't get the words out to explain to my wife. Mick and I first met in 1983 when Le Maitre considered buying Court Acoustics. No deal happened but as fellow DJs we had a lot in common and remained friends ever since (didn't anyone who ever met Mick remain friends?). His affability was disarming as surely no-one was genuinely that friendly without having some kind of angle? HE WAS! A big chunk of me aches as I was only 21 when we met yet he was so respectful to me and I will dearly miss the most smiley, funny, warm, engaging and generous men with an impeccable memory I could ever call a mate.
